When it comes to TikTok advertising metrics, one number stands out above the rest – and that’s your conversion rate. Your conversion rate ultimately tells you how effectively you’re transforming clicks and website visits into tangible sales.

The TikTok Conversions destination is a server-to-server integration with the TikTok Events API that allows advertisers to share website visitor events from Segment directly to TikTok.

Data shared through the Events API is processed similarly to information shared through the TikTok pixel and TikTok SDK business tools. Advertisers can use events data to power solutions like dynamic showcase ads (DSA), custom targeting, campaign optimization and attribution. Advertisers can see their event data in TikTok Events Manager.

Getting Started

This article will provide step-by-step instructions for setting up TikTok Events API and TikTok pixel.

Step 1: Check TikTok Requirements

1. If you don’t have a TikTok Ads account, you’ll need to create one or request access to it. This will give you access to all the tools you need to set up conversion tracking.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you already have a TikTok Ad Account authorized with LeadsBridge, you are required to reauthorize it to add the missing permissions for TikTok Conversions.

Step 2: Set up the TikTok Pixel

To set up a TikTok pixel, you’ll need to:

  • Go to your TikTok Ads Manager account, go to Assets, and click Event.
  • Under Web/Offline Events, select Manage.
  • Click Set Up Web/Offline Events.

From there, you can create a new pixel, customize its parameters, and install it on your website or app.

Step 3: Set up TikTok Conversion API (Events API)

1. Click on the Create New Bridge button from your LeadsBridge account

2. Choose the apps you want to connect: This is the first part of the Sources step; in this step, you should select the CRM or Platform from which LeadsBridge will retrieve your data.
Once done, we can select the Destination settings. TikTok Conversion API supports three types of events:

  • Web events
  • Offline events
  • CRM events (in BETA)

3. Check or create a new event inside the TikTok Ads Manager. For example, we can send Offline events to the TikTok event every 24 hours.

Also, in TikTok Ads Manager, it is possible to check the list of Web events and Offline conversions from the menu “Tools” > “Management” > “Events”.

After you have selected the Web or Offline events, a new page with the list of the selected event names and IDs will be shown. On this page, it is possible to create a new event that LB will read.

4. Pixel settings: in this section, you should select the Pixel to which you want to send your data.

  • In the Pixel/Event Set dropdown, choose between creating a new Conversion API or selecting one that you’ve previously created. You can easily create it from the bridge using the + Create button in the Destination settings.
  • Under the Sync Each dropdown, you should define the Sync frequency you would like to use; we recommend using the 24-hour sync frequency.
  • Then, in the Start Sync At dropdown, you may choose at which specific time of the day you would like to start the syncing process; we advise you to leave it as Automatically Detected.
  • Usage LDU is available only in some US states. In order to help facilitate advertiser’s compliance with the right to opt-out of sale and sharing of personal data under certain U.S. state privacy laws, TikTok has launched a Limited Data Use (“LDU”) feature. LDU for the Pixel and Events API helps give businesses more control over how their event data is used in TikTok’s systems. The feature is available in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah.
  • In this last selection option, you may set your Bridge on Live Sync and start sending your data into your TikTok Pixel, or set it as Simulation and allow LeadsBridge to elaborate and validate your source data, excluding the syncing process. Thanks to this latter option, you will be able to double-check the information sent to TikTok when you set the Bridge on Live Sync mode.
  • Finally, click on the Continue button

5. Source Filter: if you click on Add Filter for Incoming Leads, you will define Conditions on which you can set further segmentation filters for your contacts. In this way, you may allow contacts to be sent into your TikTok Pixel based on some conditions like, for instance, a filter that will only allow the syncing of contacts that have been assigned a specific State or Stage in your CRM.

After you have selected your Segmentation and optionally assigned your Source Filter, you can click on Save Changes to continue with the following step.

6. Fields Mapping: this is the Fields Mapping step, and it is the most important part of the Bridge creation. In this step, LeadsBridge will ask you to do the mapping between the fields requested by TikTok to recognize the Pixel with your CRM data.

Make sure to map every mandatory value marked with a blue star. Usually, Event Name, and Event Time are mandatory values, so you should map them accordingly.

Step 4: Send a Test to TikTok Ads Manager

To test the connection by sending test contacts, it is possible to use a special code from the TikTok Ads Manager.
In the Web Events or Offline Conversion Events list, click on the event’s name connected to the bridge and then switch to the Test Events tab.

An example of our Offline Event:

To test the connection, we copied the test code and used it as a static source value mapped with the TikTok Test Event Code field, as below:

The contacts synced as tests can be reviewed on the same page on the TikTok Ads Manager. It also shows potential errors with the contact data sent, like missing fields, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you set the test code as explained above, ALL the contacts will be set inside TikTok as test ones. Please be sure to un-map the field with the test code before switching the bridge to the Live Syncing mode.

Once you have mapped all the required and optional fields, you can click on Continue to activate your Bridge.

Step 5: Start with your Live Syncing

That’s all! When the sync period begins, your Bridge will start the elaboration and validation of your Source data and, if you have set your Bridge on Live Sync, LeadsBridge will sync the data to your TikTok Pixel.

So, once the first sync process ends, you’ll be able to see your matched CRM contacts inside your TikTok Ads Manager.
